Thirty
In about six months time I turn 30. I've never been hung up on age until this year. Say what you like, it's there and it's not going away. I might draw courage to write about why some day but for now, the fun stuff.
Attempting to turn the mild obsessing over it into something positive, I've decided to use it as a milestone to work towards.
Areas of focus
Lee Munroe has written about "areas of focus" and it's a concept I've tried to put into practice rather than traditional, finite goals over the last year or so.
So rather than a "30 things I must do before I'm 30" bucket list, here are my areas of focus for the next six months:
1. Health & Fitness
Last summer I injured both knees in quick succession and since then spent a small fortune on physiotheraphy, scans and Voltarol.
The only thing for it is to build stronger legs. The rest of my body could do with getting stronger and lighter too so health and fittness is top of my list for the next while.
Weight as of today: 73.4kg.
I've learned the hard way that mental wellbeing is just as important so I'm going to continue to be mindful of it and at a minimum ensure there's a good work/life balance most of the time.
2. Education
I have at least 3 half read books about user experience and design on my Kindle and a pile of bookmarked tutorials and articles yet to be absorbed.
I'm a creature of habit who slips into routines and grooves that need a shake every so often before they become entrenching.
3. Driving
I began attempt number two at learning to drive at the end of last year by buying a car. I didn't drive the car until January of this year but that aside, I've not done too badly thus far and Betty is in line for another trip to Ikea this weekend.
I need to pass my test by October so I don't pay nearly the same insane amount for insurance and so I can legally drive around solo and use the motorways and ultimately, continue to get better at driving.
Go!
That's probably plenty to keep me going. See you along the way and sure we'll have a good knees up and laugh about this post on the other end.
